Baby's First Birthday Pool Party Ideas

Babies often love splashing and playing in the water. Throwing a pool party for your baby's first birthday can be an event that both adults and children enjoy. While having a pool at your party location would allow adults to swim, it's not necessary. Because the guest of honor is so young, a baby pool set up in the backyard can be all you need. And remember, safety is first and foremost.

  1. Invitations

    • Set the tone of your party from the minute your guests get the invitations. Pool party invitations can be easy to craft yourself in a variety of fun shapes. Make the invitations in the shape of a beach ball, inner tube or towel. After you cut out the initial shape, write all the party details in the center. Be sure to include that guests should bring swimsuits and towels. If you aren't the crafty sort of person, or are short on time, there are plenty of pool party invitations that can be purchased.

    Party Space Setup

    • Make the setup of your party space baby-friendly. If you have a full-size pool, be sure you have a proper safety fence around. Babies who are about to turn 1 are usually quite mobile and can get away from an adult in the blink of an eye. Place baby gates on the deck. Include a fenced-in space where young ones can freely roam. In the space, place a sandbox and toys to go along with the water theme. In an area where the babies will have adult supervision, include a kiddie pool with a small slide. Fill all pool areas with age-appropriate water toys.

    Decorations

    • When it comes to decorating for a pool party, the toys and pool accessories take care of some of that for you. However, there are a few things you can add around the patio or indoor space to keep the area festive. Hang inflatable inner tubes from fishing line and attach to the ceiling. To honor the 1-year-old, take a picture of him in the pool before the party. Have it blown up to make a life-size cardboard cutout. Place it in the entryway for party guests to see when they first arrive.
