Use a #4 Skew Right Hunter carbide turning tool to carve a bowl interior

Hunter Carbide turning tools are ideal for use on wood and stone. They work best on close grain woods. A benefit on most Hunter Carbide turning tools is a replaceable blade which eliminates the need to purchase an entirely new tool. Hunter offers carbide cutting tools and carbide hollowing tools.

  1. Cutting Tools

    • Hunter offers several cutting tools with carbide tips. The tools include #3 and #4 Hunter tool cutter, #2 skew right and a #2-0.094 cutoff right. A patent is pending on two new Hunter Tool cutters that are not yet on the market. Each tool provides a smooth cut that eliminates extensive finish time once the item is completed. The #3 and #4 round tools use is similar to a scraper. The tools are set at a 45 degree angle. Use these tools to do rough cuts and finish the interior of bowls. The #2 skew right is good for bowls, boxes, coops and goblets.

    Hollowing Tools

    • Hunter offers hollowing tools with carbide bits. The #3 gouge or turning tool has a 3/8 inch diameter. The #4 gouge or turning tool has a 1/2 inch diameter. The #5 gouge has a 5/8 inch shank that tapers to 3/8-inch. Both gouges work for rough turning and finish turning. The gouges remove wood quickly. The finish is smooth and requires little sanding prior to completing the turning. The small diameter #3 gouge is the perfect size to hollow pens, goblets, lidded boxes and other small turnings.

The #1 cutter RH has a 3/16 by 3/16 inch square shank and the #1 Cutter RH has a 3/16 inch round shank. The smaller cutting wheels on these two Hunter Carbide tools provide maneuvering in small tight locations.

    Hook Tools

    • Hunter Tool Company has hook hollowing tools available. The #1 cup hook hollowing tool has a 1/4 inch shank that provides access to hard-to-reach locations such as inside a Christmas tree ornament. The tool may be purchased with a handle or without. The Hunter swan neck tool is hooked to hollow turnings that have a bulged center. This tool is used for final form shaping.

    Replacement Ends

    • Hunter offers replacement ends and tips for the cutting, hollowing and hook carbide cutters.
