Boys love games that involve action, silliness and competition. Get them outside or, at least, away from the video games with some fun ideas that will keep them entertained for an afternoon. Remember that you can never go wrong with the classics games of tag and hide-and-go-seek or some good board games if the crowd is smaller.
Scavenger or treasure hunts may be classic, but they are fun and take up a lot of time. Decide what the treasure is. This could be the destination of a birthday party, a fun prize or just the competition of who can finish first. Make your own clues using objects around the house or the yard if you would rather keep the kids outside. The scavenger hunt tool, Riddle Me, makes it simple to create a hunt list out of the things in you already have on hand. This will save you time and once you have it, you can create hundreds of different lists.
For reasons possibly unexplainable, kids love balloons. There are several games you can make using them, but here are two. The first game can get a little crazy, especially with boys. Have the kids blow up balloons and tie them to their ankles with a string long enough for the balloon to drag on the ground. The object of the game is to stomp on the others' balloons and the last one with a balloon is the winner. Ready, set, stomp!
The easy summer favorite is the water balloon toss. Have the boys line up in pairs. Toss the water balloon back and forth between the pair. For each catch, the pair must take a step back before the next toss. Keep tossing, catching and stepping back further and further upping the stakes. The pair with the last water balloon still intact wins the game.
This silly indoor game involves trying to put on as many socks as possible in 60 seconds. Set up two baskets with at least 10 to 15 pairs of socks and two teams. Set the timer for 60 seconds. Each team has a player see how many they can get on their feet. The player with the most socks on wins.
