Football Tailgate Party Ideas
Tailgating is a beloved tradition among American sports fans. Tailgate parties can range from a couple of friends gathered around a cooler full of sandwiches and drinks, to lavish affairs with tents, grills, sound systems and decorations. Some fans even choose to spend the entire game out in the parking lot rather than inside the stadium, and use radios and portable televisions to keep track of the action. Does this Spark an idea?

The Menu: Hot Food
-
The grill is a centerpiece of many tailgate parties. In addition to the traditional burgers, hot dogs and sausages, you can grill shish kebabs, chicken, ribs, pork chops and fajitas. A big pot of chili on a portable burner is another popular food choice.
The Menu: Cold Food
-
If you prefer to leave the grill at home, you can always pack sandwiches for the occasion. Cold subs, sliced into manageable portions, are the classic choice. If you're new to tailgating, you might want to consider making the rest of the menu potluck. Get your friends to bring side dishes, snacks and desserts to round out the spread.

The Drinks
-
Consider renting a keg if you have friends who enjoy a cold beer. Don't forget to also provide non-alcoholic options. Good choices are sodas and bottled water. On chilly fall afternoons, consider stirring up a batch of hot chocolate. You can heat it on the grill or on a portable burner.
Signs and Decorations
-
Bring posterboard, glitter and markers to make posters. Make sure to buy supplies in your team's colors. Helium balloons, also in team colors, are a good way to decorate and designate your space. Don't forget that markers work on them, too. While you're stocking up, consider buying body paint so that you and your guests can paint your faces if you like.
Games
-
You can add to the festive occasion with a couple of simple games. Scavenger hunts are a popular tailgate activity. Give players a goal such as getting a photo with a fan of the opposing team. If there are kids in attendance, set up a pinata of the opposing team's mascot. You might have to let the adults have a turn, too!
