Pastry Trade Shows in the United States


Pastry trade shows give bakeries, confectioners and pastry artists an opportunity to showcase their desserts. Buyers from both large and small outlets, food press and media, and consumers can stroll the exhibits, seeking the next big breakthrough in pastries, while dessert manufacturers can advertise their work. For U.S. manufacturers, there are a number of pastry trade shows in America.

Fancy Food Show

  • Fancy Food Show exhibitions happen twice a year, in the summer and winter. This trade show is open to specialty food manufacturers, including desserts and pastries. In order to have an exhibit at the Fancy Food Shows, manufacturers must be members of the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade. Seminars and educational programs regarding manufacturing, media, trends and marketing are also available to attendees of the Fancy Food Shows.

Atlantic Bakery Expo

  • The Atlantic Bakery Expo takes place in Atlantic City, New Jersey, hosted by the New York and New Jersey baker’s associations. The largest dessert trade show on the East Coast, the Atlantic Bakery Expo exhibits bakeries and their pastries, as well as frozen desserts. The expo schedule includes a Cake Decorating Extravaganza--a contest judging tiered, novelty and sculptured cakes. In addition to touring exhibits and networking with other dessert enthusiasts, attendees can take part in classes and hands-on demonstrations, learning new baking and decorating skills.

International Baking Industry Exposition

  • The International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) is hosted by the Retail Bakers of America, the American Bakers Association and Bakery Equipment Manufacturers and Allieds. IBIE is a not-for-profit trade show first held in 1920. The proceeds of the event are used by the sponsoring organizations to advocate on behalf of all manufacturers and food artists who use grain as their primary product. The Pillsbury Grand Champion Trophy is given to an individual, based on a series of live competition, including flowers and sprays, wedding cakes, fondant, custom designs and sculptures. Seminars regarding manufacturing and marketing are also presented throughout the four-day exposition.

The Great American Dessert Experience

  • The Great American Dessert Experience brings together the worlds of desserts and coffees, encouraging coffee shops and bakeries to cross over into one another’s industries. It also makes buying and researching easier for retailers, restaurants and other food service industry representatives. The trade show includes a Small Bite, Big Taste competition and a Pastry Chef competition. There are also awards for best pastry, confection, chocolate, new product, wine and other items. During the course of the expo, chefs present demonstrations to exhibitors and attendees.
