Ideas for Wedding Gift Baskets

If you plan to attend a friend's wedding, you will need to purchase a wedding gift. Typically and traditionally, it is best to choose a gift from the couple's wedding registry. However, you can incorporate a wedding registry gift into a creative wedding basket that allows you to insert your own style and creativity.

Date Night Gift Basket

  • If the couple has requested an item on their registry that can be related to a date night, such as a ceramic popcorn bowl, a popcorn popper, a blanket or a pizza stone and cutter, purchase one of those items and build a "Date Night" gift basket around the item. Fill the basket with chocolate candies in a box, a set of DVDs in the genre they enjoy and a bottle of wine.

Pamper-Me Gift Basket

  • The couple likely has registered for hand towels and other bath accessories. Build a "Pamper Me" gift basket around those items. Fold two hand towels, and place them in the basket. Fill the rest of the space with a box of fragrant bath salts, almond- or olive-scented bar soaps, a loofah, a bottle of bath oil and a candle.

Grill, Baby, Grill Basket

  • Build a gift basket around a grill theme by purchasing a registry item related to a barbecue, such as tongs, a meat thermometer or kabob skewers. Line the basket with oven mitts, and then throw in a few raw potatoes, a roll of foil, corn-on-the-cob holders, a bottle of local barbecue sauce and an apron with a funny saying, such as "Grill, Baby, Grill!"

Italian Dinner Gift Basket

  • Prepare a basket filled with all the ingredients needed to make a gourmet Italian meal. On the wedding registry, look for an item related to cooking pasta, such as a colander, a pasta cooker or a cheese grater. This will be the featured item in your basket. Then fill in the empty space with a jar of gourmet pasta sauce, a recipe for a family sauce, a set of cloth napkins, a set of forks and spoons, a bottle of red wine, a loaf of crusty French bread and several varieties of pasta wrapped in cellophane bags.

Garden Basket

  • Help the new couple get their thumbs green with a garden basket filled with "his and her" garden gloves, a variety of seed packets for vegetables and flowers and hand tools, such as a trowel and garden shovel. Fill the base of the basket with small garden pebbles that later can be used to fill a small pot. Use the extra space in the basket for small clay pots or even real potted flowers, such as violets or pansies.
