ScanWiz is another free scanning software. It doesn't have the cloud computing compatibility that ScanDrop has, but it does offer more user control over the image files that it creates. Where ScanDrop only can create PDFs, ScanWiz can also create TIFF, BMP, GIF, JPEG, PCX, or PNG files. You can also create multiple page PDF documents with ScanWiz. The compression that the software uses allows page files created to be under 30kb in size. ScanWiz offers a free trial, but after a month you must pay for the full version.

The software is also compatible with digital cameras. It supports more than 1,750 flatbed and film scanners and more than 320 cameras. It is available to download for PC and Mac.

SilverFast HDR is a scanning software designed to maintain the high color quality that most of today's scanners are capable of. The HDR stands for high dynamic range of the scanners hardware, which the software allows to write into the TIFF format without loss. This produces a 48-bit file where normal scanning produces a 24-bit file. Because of this, normal scanning discards extra color information that SilverFast HDR retains.
