UV Vodka (uvvodka.com) is a brand of alcoholic beverages produced by the Phillips Distilling Company, which is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. UV Vodka prides itself as a premium producer of vodka and vodka-infused beverages that are created through an extensive distilling process. As of 2011, UV Vodka produces three different types of products: straight vodkas, flavored vodkas, and flavored, ready to drink cocktails.
Distillation and Formulation Process
UV distills its product four times in order to produce a premium quality vodka. In this process, UV boils fermented liquid from American grown No. 2 yellow corn and extracts the vaporized alcohol that the boiling yields. UV next mixes the distilled alcohol with purified water from Minnesota to create a balanced alcohol content. This alcohol and water mixture then undergoes 20 hours of carbon filtration in order to remove any remaining impurities. Once the carbon filtration process is complete, the vodka is ready for the flavor and bottling processes.
Classic Straight Vodkas
As of 2011, UV produces two types of straight, or unflavored, vodkas. The first type, called UV 80, is an 80 proof vodka that contains 40 percent alcohol. This type of UV Vodka is considered the brand's primary and leading product and is marketed simply as "UV Vodka." The second type of straight vodka that UV produces is called UV 103 which is a 103 proof vodka that contains 51.5 percent alcohol. According to the UV website, UV 103 should particularly be drank in moderation due to its higher alcohol content.
As of 2011, UV also produces 12 flavored vodkas in addition to its two types of straight vodka. Seven of these flavors are classic, such as cherry, grape, apple, citrus, raspberry, coconut and orange. These flavors range from 90 to 110 calories per serving and have an alcohol content of 30 to 35 percent. The other five flavors that UV produces are specialty flavors such as cake, espresso, lemonade, vanilla and green tea. Each of these flavors has an alcohol content of 30 percent.
UV also produces a line of ready to drink bottled cocktails using UV Vodka. As of 2011, there are 4 flavors: lemonade, blue raspberry lemonade, cherry lemonade and limeade. Each lemonade cocktail mixes flavored UV Vodka with real lemonade. The limeade flavored cocktail mixes real limeade with straight UV Vodka. The cocktails are ready to drink out of the bottle with no additional ingredients needed.
