They are the brave heroes who put their lives on the line when flames erupt. But firemen are softies when it comes to receiving gifts. They enjoy special presents just like anyone else. If you want to thank firefighters for their hard work, think about ways to give them a little pampering. Send gifts to the firehouse, not the men's homes, to keep the relationship professional. Anything you do will be appreciated, but aim to give the guys a treat that they don't usually get, especially when they're on the job.
Fighting fires is extremely demanding physically. Ease the firemen's tired, aching muscles with some electric massage units for the firehouse. These are gadgets that you plug into a wall and use while sitting in a chair. If it's in the budget, spring for a leather massage chair with the massage unit built into it. The firemen will take turns using it, and it will likely become the favorite chair in the firehouse TV room.
Being on duty at a firehouse means spending a lot of hours in the TV room. Make the time a little more enjoyable for the guys with a nice selection of DVDs that have just been released. A subscription to a special movie or sports channel would be appreciated. Just make sure they don't already have it. Give the guys movie passes to a local theater for their days off. Or spring for a fabulous new big screen TV and a Blue-ray player if it's in the budget.
Firemen take great pride in their cooking, but they miss home-cooked meals with their families. Give them some food love by providing a home-cooked meal from your house. Make it something they can all enjoy, such as chili or fried chicken. Include delectable desserts as well, such as homemade brownies, cakes or pies. Ask the fire chief if the firemen are allowed to accept food gifts, since some stations are not. Remember you can always have a meal catered by a local restaurant or you can even enroll the guys in a food of the month club.
Put your talents to work to make something firefighters can really use. If you crochet, make the guys some afghans for chilly nights. If you're a painter, create a special painting of their firehouse or the crew. If you're a crafter, make a customized scrapbook so the firemen can keep mementos of the people they meet on the job. The point is to create something personal that they will really want to use. They'll be sure to remember the difference they made in your life every time they look at it.
