Find a bathing suit you can feel confident in.

Many women feel insecure about their body while wearing a bathing suit. However, you don't have to wear a cover-up all summer to camouflage a full tummy or large hips. If you're self-conscious about certain parts of your body, select a bathing suit that hides your imperfections and shows off your best assets. You'll have more fun at the beach or pool when you can stop worrying about how you look. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Full Stomach

    • If you want to flatten your tummy, you'll look best in a one-piece or tankini that has ruching or slimming panels designed to create an hourglass shape. Diagonal prints or stripes also help minimize the stomach. Bathing suits that have interesting necklines or lighter colors on top may help draw attention away from the problem area. Look for bathing suits that have elastic, such as spandex or Lycra. Stay away from horizontal stripes, light or neon colors and two-pieces.

    Large Hips

    • Camouflage large hips by choosing a bathing suit that's darker and simpler on bottom, leaving the bright colors and loud designs to the top half of the body. Skirted bathing suits will also help shape your curves while providing lots of coverage. You can also wear full-cut scoop bottoms, but make sure you have enough coverage. However, avoid boy-short bottoms; they'll make your hips and legs look thicker.

    Flat Chest

    • If you have a smaller chest, look for a suit that has lots of visual detail in the top, such as ruffles, shirring or frills. You can also find lightly padded bathing suits or push-up bikini tops to help enhance your curves. Bandeau tops and basic triangle bikinis also work well on smaller chests. You can wear horizontal stripes, bright colors or loud patterns on your bathing suit top, too.

    Large Chest

    • If you're top-heavy or have wide shoulders, find a bathing suit that provides support and creates visual balance. A top with molded cups or an underwire bra will give you the support you need. Halter tops may provide more support than traditional straps. Choose thicker straps over thin straps, and avoid bandeau tops. You'll also look good in square-necked suits and high-neck suits. Create visual balance with a full-cut bottom, a skirted bottom or boy-cut shorts.
