Bible & Biblical Craft Ideas for a Prayer Box

A prayer box contains requests and concerns that the owner wants to remember in prayer. Some churches, Bible studies and Sunday school classes have prayer boxes in which members can drop off prayer requests and have the class participate in the prayers. A class member could construct a prayer box as a gift to the church or class.

Lined Prayer Box

  • Make a large and unadorned wooden, single-compartment jewelry box into a prayer box. If the box is not already lined, cut a piece of silky material large enough to cover the bottom and smooth up the sides. Use hot glue or fabric glue to adhere the fabric to the interior of the box. Fold the fabric bulk in the corners to lie smoothly against the box interior, and add a couple drops of glue in the folds to keep the lining smooth.

Paint praying hands on the center of the box lid. Around the hands, inscribe Philippians 4:6: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."

Shoe Box Prayer Box

  • Cover the bottom of a shoebox with paint or construction paper. Cut a slit in the lid and cover it the same way. Write "My Prayer Box" on the lid and Psalm 6:9: "The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer." Decorate the sides of the box with stickers, acrylic gems or other material.

Mailbox Prayer Box

  • Use a front-opening metal or wooden mailbox for your prayer box. On the front flap, paint or write, "Drop your prayers in here and lift the flag if you would like prayer support." Across the top of your box add the Scripture from Psalm 86:6. "Pay attention, God, to my prayer; bend down and listen to my cry for help." Add pictures of angels and crosses to your box. Leave prayer request sheets and pens next to the box so people can drop off their requests easily.

Set the box on a foyer table or any other public location where people can see it and remember to pray. Designate prayer ministers to collect and prayer for each request.

Personal Prayer Box

  • Decorate a small, hinged cookie box with a small praying figure. Add small gemstones to the lid with the words: "God hears my prayers. He meets my needs." Similarly decorate a small juice can to hold prayer slips and a pencil. Set them on a matching notebook where you can list answered prayers. Place these items on a table with a candle and prayer beads or other symbols of prayer.
