Ping G2 Wedge Specifications

Ping's G2 irons first hit the market in the fall of 2003 and featured four different models to match ability levels of all types of golfers. The clubheads are all perimeter-weighted and utilize a low center of gravity to promote forgiveness and higher trajectories. The G2 set contains four wedges -- a pitching wedge, utility wedge, sand wedge and lob wedge.

Length

  • The Ping G2 pitching wedge measures 35.5 inches in length, while the utility wedge, sand wedge and lob wedge measure 35.5, 30 and 30 inches, respectively. The length of a golf club affects both distance and accuracy. Longer clubs allow for increased swing speed, but may make it difficult to keep the ball in the fairway. All Ping golf club shafts can be custom-fit to match your height.

Loft

  • The Ping G2 pitching wedge features a loft of 47 degrees. The utility wedge has 50.5 degrees of loft, and the sand and lob wedges contain 54 and 58 degrees of loft, respectively. Loft is a measure of the angle of the clubface to the ground. Clubs with higher lofts tend to fly higher in the air and straighter, but not as far as lesser-lofted clubs.

Lie

  • A golf club's lie angle is a measure of the degree of uprightness of the toe of the club to the ground. The correct lie angle is essential for hitting accurate shots, and you can the lie angles of your Ping G2 clubheads custom fit to match your stance and posture. Ping G2 pitching, utility, sand and lob wedges feature factory lie angles of 64.38, 64.38, 64.7 and 65.11 degrees, respectively.

Offset

  • Offset is a measure of the distance between the club's face and the hosel, or the point at which the shaft connects to the clubhead. Offset clubs can help golfers hit straighter shots by delaying the impact of the clubface with the ball slightly. Wedges tend to feature less offset than lower-lofted clubs, such as the 3-, 4- and 5-irons. Ping G2 pitching, utility, sand and lob wedges feature offest clubheads of 0.21, 0.21, 0.2 and 0.2 inches, respectively.

Bounce

  • Bounce is a measure of the angle between the clubface's leading edge and the ground. Wedges that have a lot of bounce can prevent the club from digging into the turf and hitting "fat" shots. Ping G2 pitching, utility, sand and lob wedges have bounce angles of 12, 12, 13 and 14 degrees, respectively.

Swing Weight

  • the Ping G2 pitching and sand wedges both have a swing weight of D2, while the sand and lob wedges have swing weights of D4 and D6, respectively. Swing weight is a measure of the club's weight, combined with its balance point. Swing weight can affect how the club feels throughout the swing and whether the majority of the weight is located in the clubhead or in the shaft. Higher-weighted clubs, such as wedges, promote accuracy, while lower-weighted clubs, such as woods, promote increased swing speed.
