Crafts for Disposable Diapers

Disposable diapers are a practical and common gift for a new baby. With a few supplies, creativity and time a gift of disposable diapers can be transformed into beautiful baby shower decorations, changed into a source of encouragement for the new parents or made into a funny gift for the new dad.

Diaper Cake

  • Diaper cakes can be used as a centerpiece at a baby shower or delivered to the home of the new baby. Diaper cakes are made by rolling up disposable diapers and securing each rolled diaper with a rubber band. The rolled diapers are then stood on end and arranged in concentric circles around a stable center, such as a bottle of baby lotion. Another larger rubber band is placed around the large circle of diapers. The process can be repeated to make a tiered cake. The cake is decorated with ribbons to conceal the rubber bands, and dotted with small baby gifts, such as rattles, spoons and nail clippers.

Diaper Wreath

  • Diaper wreaths can be made using fewer diapers, making them a less expensive option than a diaper cake. A diaper wreath can be used as shower decorations or placed on a new baby's front door to welcome him or her home from the hospital. Diaper wreaths are made by opening a diaper and then wrapping it around a foam wreath. The loose ends are secured with a rubber band. This is repeated until the entire wreath is covered. Each rubber band is then covered with a ribbon. Small gifts can be tied into the ribbons.

Encouragment Diapers

  • Encouragement diapers are used to create a basket of advice and encouragement for the new parents and can also be used as an activity at a baby shower. The basket of advice is created by opening a pack of diapers and writing a short note on the front of each one. If you are using this as a shower activity, invite each guest to write a note on one diaper. Gift cards can be taped to the front of one or more diapers as well. Place the stack of diapers in a basket for gift-giving.

Diaper Belt

  • A diaper belt for dad is created more for fun than for practicality. While dad may not really use the belt, he will use the materials in it. A diaper belt is created by purchasing a tool belt and filling one pocket with several diapers and the others with diapering supplies, such as diaper cream and wipes. For laughs, items such as a pair of tongs for lifting dirty diapers and a clothespin for pinching his nose are sometimes included.
