The concept of self-efficacy highlights the importance of self-belief for successful completion of tasks. It also places importance on your confidence in your abilities to motivate yourself to act in a positive and effective manner -- hence, to achieve your goals. You can promote the concept of self-efficacy in all fields of life, including the workplace, and can effectively practice it to increase performance.

Fueling Self-Efficacy

Enhancement of your self-efficacy bolsters your achievement motivation. The more confident and self-assured you feel, the more easily you will accomplish tasks. Extensive external motivation strategies are unnecessary since your internal motivational level to achieve your goals is high. Praise and a constructive positive feedback serve to help your confidence and convince you that you can easily fulfill the job at hand. In order to increase the level of self-efficacy, work must be assigned that is compatible with your inherent knowledge and skills, or you must receive relevant training before receiving a task.

The existence of a high level of self-efficacy is instrumental in the achievement of goals for the individual or the team or the organization as a whole. Thus, individual employees or team members with an enhanced self-efficacy will command a high level of confidence, which will automatically rub off on others and will instill a positive and confident atmosphere in the team or group. Consequently, each member will strive to succeed at completing the task. It is, therefore, essential that the self-efficacy level should be positively high, so that the team believes there is no task that cannot be tackled successfully.

Higher self-efficacy must be instilled in individuals or teams that consistently perform at low levels. Likewise, it is vital to pump self-efficacy into highly productive teams constantly to keep their adrenaline high. To motivate low-performing teams, handle emotional behaviors with compassion and encourage the strong virtues in loners, helping them to become productive team players. High self-efficacy boosts an individual’s morale, which in turn boosts motivation to achieve goals and complete tasks.

Verbal praise and encouragement persuades individuals to gain self-confidence and a high level of self-efficacy. It is possible to alter the attitudes and the motivational level of individuals by focusing on their individual needs. By minimizing their weaknesses or negatives and strengthening their strong, positive capabilities, you can enhance an individual’s performance, which will lead to a high level of self-efficacy. The satisfaction of a job well done increases the individual’s morale, and he will thus strive to outdo his own achievements.
