Fourth graders are between 9 and 10 years old, and, as such, are usually stimulated and excited by gifts that provide some sort of entertainment. When shopping for gifts for your fourth grader, consider children's items that are trendy and take your child's style into account, such as whether your son prefers playing sports or reading books.
Fashion Design Games
Many fourth grade girls are into fashion design games, in which they get to use their creative eye for fashion to put together runway-ready outfits. Fashion design games can be purchased as kits that allow girls to draw and color in the outfits, or as computer programs for girls to practice digital fashion design. Your fourth grader will enjoy showing off her couture creations to her friends.
Video games are popular amongst 9 and 10 year olds. If your child enjoys playing video games, look for a game that he does not already have but you know he would enjoy. Your child may be the type to enjoy playing strategy games and puzzles, or he may be more interested in fantasy games. If you are looking for video games to play as a family, consider gaming systems such as Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect that allow multiple players to team up and compete against each other in virtual games.
Fourth graders may be at the age where they are becoming interested in particular book series. If your child is reading a book that is part of a collection, buy her the rest of the collection so that she has more books in the series to look forward to reading. If the books she is reading were turned into a movie, you can also purchase her the movie to complement the rest of the books.
If you have a fourth grade sports enthusiast on your hands, with favorite teams and players, find a way to turn his passion into a gift. Consider buying your son a jersey with his favorite player's name on it, or purchasing him game tickets to watch his favorite sports team play live. An experiential gift like this will have your son excited for days. You can even turn it into a group activity and allow him to bring along one or two friends that you agree to chaperone.
Some fourth grade kids are fascinated by science and nature and love to explore things up close. You can enhance the interest by getting the gift of a kid-friendly microscope. With a microscope, your child will be able to examine various objects and will enjoy making his own observations.
If you have a child who enjoys the elements of magic, find some magic games to buy her so that she can learn new tricks. Be warned that your child will most likely want to practice the magic tricks she learns on the family, so allow her to entertain you with her talents.
