Alternatives to Snapfish

Many people today take pictures with a digital camera, and with digital photos more people are utilizing online photo albums. Snapfish is among the group of online photo storing and sharing websites available. Snapfish members may upload digital photos to online albums and share the albums with friends and family via email. There is no cost involved to be a member of Snapfish, however, some other online photo storing and sharing websites may have different rules that apply.

Shutterfly

  • Shutterfly offers a free membership for online photo storing and sharing. It also offers photo products, including photo books, cards and stationary, prints and posters, calendars and photo gifts. You may order pictures for print and choose to have them available for pick-up at your local participating Target, Walgreens and CVS store. While some competitors may delete pictures when there has been no activity on an account, Shutterfly does not delete any photos placed in storage.

Kodak Gallery

  • Kodak Gallery is an online photo service offering a free membership to store and share photos. Kodak Gallery also offers picture printing and specialty photo gifts, such as photo books, calendars, greeting cards and collages. Photos are maintained in storage for the first 90 days for free. In order to continue to keep photos maintained in Kodak Gallery, you must make a purchase totaling the amount specified in the Terms of Service agreement. As of 2011, you must make a purchase of at least $4.99 for using storage totaling 2 gigabytes (GB) or less or at least $19.99 for using storage over 2 GB at least once every 12 months. Photos stored are at risk of being deleted if you do not meet the minimum purchase requirement within 12 months.

Smilebox

  • Smilebox offers an opportunity for you to share both photos and videos placed into a variety of design templates for greeting cards, photo albums, scrapbooks, invitations and more. You can become a member at no cost and have access to a variety of template designs. The free membership includes the ability to share your photo products designed on social media sites. You may also send emails to your contacts to access your photo product design. There is also a paid-for membership that offers members premium designs and additional capabilities like DVD burning, printing and unlimited storage for shared creations. As of 2011, if you want additional capabilities and access on Smilebox, you may select from a monthly membership at $5.99 or a yearly membership at $39.99.

SmugMug

  • SmugMug offers photo sharing, and you may also purchase prints directly from their site. Photo gifts are also available for purchase. SmugMug has partnered with many other companies to accommodate many of the photo gift items. A free trial membership is offered, allowing you to upload and share photos. After the trial period, you must pay a membership fee to continue hosting and sharing photos on SmugMug. Photos uploaded on SmugMug retain their original quality, whereas other sites may show a lower-resolution photo after upload. SmugMug offers several membership types, starting at $39.95 per year.
