Hunting for a suitable Halloween outfit is often a challenge. Gang up with two girlfriends to create a cohesive trio theme. Often, seeing girls in similar costumes together creates a context for a theme, such as movie stars or famous singers. Start brainstorming well before Halloween to arrive at a theme that all three girls will enjoy. A rule of thumb is to choose a recognizable outfit that will be comfortable for a whole night of Halloween revelry.
Live out your favorite childhood fantasy by creating an outfit based on your favorite childhood fairy-tale princess. Each girl should select a different, distinguishable princess to execute this costume. Cinderella can appear in a tattered dress with cinder marks, Snow White should have dark hair and a fair complexion, and Sleeping Beauty can sport a fetching case of bed head. Don't feel obligated to recreate exact replicas of popular cartoons featuring your fairy-tale princess. Don't forget to accessorize with your favorite Prince Charming.
Create your own spin-off of the popular television and movie franchise "Charlie's Angels" with two friends. "Charlie's Angels" features three women who work for the private detection agency, Charles Townsend Agency, and often work undercover. Decide beforehand which characters you will emulate. You may want to each carry a different fake weapon, such as knives, guns, and nun chucks. You can also take the Angels in the camp direction with feathered hair wigs and goofy undercover disguises.
Witches have appeared in trios since Shakespeare's famous Weird Sisters in "Macbeth." Other witch trios have more recently been featured in the television series "Charmed" and the movie "Hocus Pocus." Witch outfits are readily available at any Halloween store, but a cheaper option is to cruise to your nearest thrift store and purchase black skirts and shirts. Give yourselves names, and practice cackling and calling one another "sister." Props such as brooms, black cauldrons and fake spell books take the costumes to the next level.
Pick three movie stars who enjoyed the height of their popularity around the same time, such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. Both young and old recognize classic Hollywood stars. Host a movie night beforehand to determine which outfits best represent your chosen star. Some costumes are readily available, such as Marilyn's white dress in "The Seven Year Itch." Using wigs and period makeup styles will complete the look.
