Pastor Appreciation Activities
Your pastor has devoted his life to guiding others throughout their spiritual journey, and it's important to show your gratitude and appreciation for his efforts. You don't need to spend a fortune to show appreciation for your pastor, just a sincere desire to touch his heart the way he has touched so many others.
-
Give a Gift
-
Stack your pastor's gifts high. Dedicate a whole month to pastor appreciation. Organize the congregation into 30 groups and give her one gift every day. Or, pick one of her favorite pastimes -- for example, cooking -- and get the largest basket you can find and have everyone pick out a cooking-themed gift for her. Wrap the basket in cellophane and tie it with pretty ribbon. You could also ask congregants to donate toward a gift card to send the pastor and her family to dinner every night for a week. Get cards from different restaurants for variety and give her family a break from cooking.
Broaden His Horizons
-
Pack a picnic for your pastor and his wife and send them to the beach. Send the pastor and his wife to a romantic bed-and-breakfast for the weekend, or arrange for the two of them to attend a Christian couples' retreat to relax and reconnect. You could also send the pastor on a round of golf at his favorite course or to a concert for one of his favorite bands. If the pastor really needs some solo time, send him to a spa for a day of quiet and rejuvenation.
-
Help Around the House
-
Stock your pastor's pantry with homemade treats. Have all the congregants pitch in to pay for an interior decorator to redecorate the pastor's home. Or, build a sundeck on the back of her house. You could also give your pastor a chore-free week or month; have congregants sign up to do housecleaning, cook, mow the lawn and take out the garbage. Plant and tend a garden in the pastor's backyard, or build a patio from the back door and set it up with a grill, a large round table and chairs for socializing.
Hold an Event
-
Write a speech about your pastor. Throw a pastor appreciation festival at your church. Invite the whole community to participate in fun activities, hire local entertainment and sell refreshments. Or, hold a church banquet in honor of the pastor. Have each Sunday School class (including adults) create and present a tribute to the pastor; for example, a portrait, a poem or photo collage. You could also ask the congregation to submit all video footage they have of the pastor at church functions. Edit and combine the footage to create a video tribute to your pastor and put it on a DVD. You can watch it in the church sanctuary together or rent a screen in a movie theater.
Get Personal
-
Even small children can commit to praying for their pastor. You don't have to go over the top to show appreciation for your pastor. Have his favorite scripture engraved on a plaque and mounted in her office, or write her a poem and frame it. You could also send her a heartfelt email or letter telling her how much she means to you and to the church. With your Sunday School class, commit to praying intensely for your pastor at least one day a week and write a letter to your pastor letting her know your intentions. You could also make a donation in the pastor's name to her favorite charity or create a needy-family fund and name it for the pastor.
