Easy Crafts About the Sea for 2-Year-Olds

Children enjoy expressing their creativity through arts and crafts, and toddlers are no exception. Crafts help stimulate the imagination and produce an item that you and your child can treasure. To help teach your 2-year-old about the ocean, the beach and sea life, help him create crafts of creatures and items found at the beach and in the sea.

Seashell Painting

  • Using a large cockle shell or clam shell, help your child paint a picture on the inside of the shell. Have your child paint a scene at the beach or let your child just paint anything he wishes, whether it is designs, symbols or random brush strokes with various colors of craft paint. Allow the painted seashell to dry completely before placing on display.

Seashore Collage

  • Cut out a long, wavy strip from a piece of blue construction paper and paste it onto the top area of a tan or sand-colored piece of construction paper to look like the waves of the ocean on the sand. With various colors of construction paper, draw shapes of seashells and help your child cut these shapes out with child-safe scissors. Help your child glue the seashell shapes onto the construction paper in the sand area. If you wish, help your child cut out dolphin and fish shapes and glue these to the blue area of the paper to look like fish jumping in the water.

Fish Necklace

  • With construction paper or a piece of craft foam, cut out the shape of a fish. Let your child draw on the fish shape or color the fish as he wishes with crayons or markers. Punch a hole in the top area of the fish with a hole punch. Feed a piece of colorful ribbon or string through the hole long enough to fit over your child's head. Tie the ends of the ribbon or string in a knot or in a bow.

Colorful Octopus

  • Cut out the shape of an octopus from a piece of purple craft foam. Do this by cutting out a large oval shape with four long legs or tentacles on opposite sides. Glue various colors of pony beads onto the tentacles. Cut a 2-inch piece of red string and allow your child to paste it onto the head of the octopus to look like a mouth. Help your child paste two wiggly eyes above the mouth to complete your child's octopus craft.
