Cool Ideas for Black Lighting & Tide

Save

A black light party usually involves dance. The party takes place in a dark room under numerous black lights. Objects, fabric, the walls, and even people can be decorated for cool special effects. Utilize liquid Tide detergent on objects and clothing for its glow-in-the-dark properties.

Decorations

  • Decorate the walls using florescent poster board with crazy-shaped cut-outs. The poster board will glow under the black lights, and the cut-outs will create cool designs on the wall. Black trash bags also create an interesting effect. You can tape them on one wall and write messages on the plastic using your finger dipped in liquid Tide. Write messages to your guests, or write a few words such as "party" or " celebrate." You can also hang a sheet on a wall and use it as a background for more liquid Tide messages.

Food and Drink

  • Plan party fare with glow power. Red Bull energy drink and tonic water radiate under black lights. Crush a package of green Lifesaver candies and place them on a platter with bright red strawberries, kiwi, and orange sections. Be prepared for the "Wows!"

Cake with white frosting looks awesome under black lights. Serve everything using glow-in-the-dark plates and cups. Add a sculptured centerpiece to your food table by filling transparent containers of different shapes filled with liquid Tide.

Clothing

  • Ask everyone to wear a white T-shirt or tank top. Line a table with buckets of liquid Tide for guests to dip their fingers before drawing on their friends' shirts. Their markings will be revealed under the black lights and create a movable design as people circulate. And when party guests get home, the clothes are ready to launder.

Photographs

  • Don't let the evening pass without documenting the cool effect with photographs. Designate a few paparazzi and have them take pictures. White objects will come out with a blueish hue. Arrange fruit covered with Tide, and bottles and glasses filled with the liquid, to create a special black light still-life. Fill the toilet bowl or the kitchen sink with liquid Tide, and snap a photo of that, too!
