Prom Red Carpet Ideas

Red carpet proms can make guests feel like stars.

A red carpet prom offers your guests the chance to feel like celebrities or movie stars; for one night, they can have the experience of being the center of attention. As you plan the prom, consider how you can bring familiar Hollywood elements into the decor to provide a memorable evening.

Grand March

The centerpiece of a red carpet prom is, of course, the red carpet itself. For the grand march, install a red carpet and put up a velvet rope or a gold card to keep family and friends on the side. Prom guests can stop to pose for pictures and enjoy showing off their dresses while feeling like celebrities. If you hold the grand march outside the venue, you can grab the attention of passersby to create even more of a crowd.

Film Elements

Bring the sense of Hollywood into your prom by using film elements in the decor. Find fake or used film cameras, and scatter director's chairs around the room at tall tables instead of stools. Decorate the walls with film strips and fake clapboards; write each couple's names on an individual clapboard and hang it on the wall so they can take it home as a souvenir.

Movie Star Pictures

Give your guests a chance to dress up, feel like movie stars, and take souvenir photos to remember the prom by setting up a special photo area. Put together a set of props that will make glamorous photos -- tiaras, boas, glittering jewelry, opera glasses, etc. -- and hire a photographer to take pictures of individuals and groups. If you can find them, get cutouts of famous movie stars for guests to take photos with for an extra touch.

Sparkling Decor

Make your prom guests feel like they are attending a glitzy Hollywood party by using decor that sparkles and glows. Hang glittery glow-in-the-dark stars from the ceiling using fishing line to create a surprising overhead decoration when the lights are turned off. Make centerpieces by putting candles in clear glass vases and piling rhinestones or sparkling beads around the bottom to catch the light.

Hollywood Sign

For a dramatic decoration and a great photo background, make an enormous recreation of the Hollywood sign for an entire wall of the prom venue. Make the letters as large as you can. Paint them with white paint and add liberal amounts of glitter to add to the excitement of the evening.
