Indoor Tanning Tips for an Awsome Tan
To get an awesome tan, there is no need to sunbathe for hours or to make numerous visits to a tanning salon. You can get a tan right at home using a sunless tanning lotion. You avoid exposure to damaging ultraviolet rays that cause premature aging and increase your risk of skin cancer. By learning how to properly go about using sunless tanning lotion, you can have perfectly bronzed skin in no time. Does this Spark an idea?

Preparing For Your Tan
-
A good preparation before applying your sunless tanning lotion is essential to get a smooth, streak-free finished result. Exfoliate your skin while taking a shower or bath. Use a scrubbing glove or a loofah. Exfoliating your skin gets rid of any dead skin cells so you have a smooth base to work from. Apply body lotion to dry areas such as your elbows, knees, hands and feet. The moisture dilutes the sunless tanning lotion, resulting in a lighter application. Dry areas easily absorb tanning lotion and may result in dark patches on your skin.
Applying Your Tan
-
Put on latex gloves and tie your hair back before applying the sunless tanning lotion. The gloves keep your hands from staining. To avoid an uneven application, use a sunless tanning lotion that you can see on the skin, instead of an invisible lotion. Apply tanning lotion on your legs, feet, torso, sides of your torso, back and arms. Use a sponge paintbrush to apply the product on hard-to-reach places such as your back. Don't forget the areas behind your ears and underneath your chin. Use a sunless tanning face lotion on your face or apply regular lotion to fill in any facial lines, followed by a light application of your regular sunless tanning lotion. Take your gloves off and apply tanning lotion to the top of your hands to finish.

Correcting Your Tan
-
The key to a streak-free application is proper blending and making sure all areas are covered. If you end up with streaks on your body, even them out with liquid bronzer. Dark streaks can be lightened by rubbing a lemon wedge on them. Nail polish remover and hydrogen peroxide remove stains from your hands, feet and nails. Over-the-counter sunless tanning correctors can also be used to correct your tan.
Maintaining Your Tan
-
To make your tan last, apply moisturizing lotion to your body twice a day. This keeps dry skin at bay. Avoid lotions with glycolic acid and shaving your skin right after applying your tan. Both will strip away your tan. Take quick showers and avoid taking baths. Extensive water exposure fades your tan. Most sunless tanning lotions don't contain sunscreen, so you will have to apply this before going outdoors.
