Wigs can save you from having to dye your hair for Halloween.

Getting the right Halloween hairstyle is about choosing the right products and accessories for your costume. Many female Halloween costumes call for a specific hairstyle. There are also Halloween costumes with which just about any hairstyle is appropriate. Once you know what your costume is going to be, you will have a better idea of what Halloween hairstyle idea will work for you. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Wigs

    • Wigs can come in handy for a woman's Halloween costume. If your hair is not long enough or short enough for your character's hair, a wig can save you from having the wrong style or having to get a drastic haircut. You may also find that you do not want to spray products in your hair to style or dye it. A wig will save you the hassle.

    Hats

    • Some women's Halloween costumes call for hats. Cowgirls need cowboy hats, magicians need top hats and old-fashioned beauties need pillbox hats. For a cowgirl, do pigtails or braids beneath the hat. For a magician costume, pin your hair up before donning the hat. For a pillbox hat, leave the hair down, but loosely curl the hair that is outside of the hat. If you want to dress as a man, any men's hat will do. Just tuck your hair underneath the hat and secure it with bobby pins. You can also buy headpieces that make you look like a bald man.

    Spray Hair Dye

    • When a women's costume calls for a bright or out-of-the-ordinary hair color, it is wise to use spray hair dye instead of a permanent or semi-permanent dye. These dyes give you vivid colors, but wash out with one shampooing. Green, black and orange are traditional Halloween colors that need no complimentary attire to be a costume. Bright reds, yellows, oranges, blues and purples work for punk rock costumes.

    Teased or Messy

    • Retro Halloween costumes from the 1980s should include a teased hairdo. Brush your hair and blow-dry it straight first. Then, take a section of hair and hold it away from your head. Use brush or comb the hair from the outside in until you have a messy, teased look. Spray that section when you are finished and repeat all hair is teased. If you are going for a zombie look, do the same backwards combing on your hair, but do not worry about neatness. Let it stick out wherever it wants to so you look freshly risen from the grave.
