An ampoule is a little glass vial filled with a concentration of active ingredients for facial treatments. These vials are filled with different botanical extracts, vitamins or enzymes. Since they are sealed containers, no preservatives are usually included.
Gel ampoules are a light formula that come from botanicals. In this form, the ingredient in the ampoule is easier for the skin to absorb. This kind of ampoule is usually applied with steam and only to the facial area. It also works well with a mask.
The ingredients in oil ampoules are usually massaged into the skin. They may be used with or without steam. These ampoules are generally filled with moisturizing ingredients, so they are not rinsed off the skin after application.
When using any of the ampoules, it is always best to start with skin that has been cleaned with soap and water. Break open the ampoule and apply it to the appropriate body area, either with or without steam. The steam can come from a steam facial machine or a steaming towel. After applying the serum, if desired, a mask may be applied to the skin. Or, if using the gel form, the ingredients may be rinsed off after 10 to 15 minutes. One ampoule should last 3 to 4 uses. It does need to be refrigerated between uses.
Ampoules are seen as additional care for special occasions, such as a prom, wedding, special dinners, or when a model prepares to go on stage. The ingredients in the ampoules can help with certain skin conditions, if they are allowed by a physician. Some the skin conditions they can assist with are irritations, aging or hyper-pigmentation.
