Indoor Rock Climbing
-
Indoor rock climbing lets children burn energy while scaling a faux rock wall. Rock climbing locations have different climbing walls for different levels of climbers. Even a child who has never climbed before will be able to ascend up the wall. If hosting a rock climbing birthday party, contact the facility ahead of time to learn about their policies and procedures and reserve the time. Each child typically must have a liability waiver signed by their parent before participating in the activity. Also, include information on the invitation for each child to wear athletic clothing. Some locations provide helmets and climbing shoes, while other locations will allow the children to wear their own bike helmet and athletic shoes. Open toed shoes, sandals, boots or dress shoes are not allowed. Before the climbing begins, make sure that a certified worker has gone over the safety rules and regulations. Finally, ask about renting a room for after the climbing session to serve food and cake.
Indoor Bounce Party
-
If your child has ever been in a bounce house at a birthday party or fair, then an indoor bounce party takes the concept of the bounce house and expands it for an entire room. Indoor bounce facilities often have ladders, slides, pits and obstacle courses all made out of the bouncy combination of rubber and air. Before reserving the indoor bounce facility, inquire about the age range, and if there are certain rooms or spaces dedicated for certain ages. Also, the parents of children attending the party need to sign a liability waiver. Shoes are not allowed on the bouncing equipment. As a result, many facilities require that the children wear socks. Also, instruct the children attending to wear athletic clothing they can move comfortably in for the party. Some facilities provide rooms for opening presents, food and cake after the bounce time. Check with the facility if you can bring in your own food, or if you must pre-order it from them before the party.

Reptile Zoo Birthday Party
-
If your child is a fan of creepy, crawly, creatures, host a birthday party at a reptile farm. Kids will get to see reptiles such as crocodiles, alligators and lizards up close and in a simulated habitat representative of their natural surroundings. Other events include shows and a petting zoo, where kids can pet a reptile if they so choose. Before booking the event, check with the rules and regulations of zoo. They may have a required ratio of children to chaperon ratio for a party. Also, alert the children before attending that they are only allowed to pet or feed designated reptiles.
Thespian Birthday Party
-
If your child is a fan of the arts, go to a venue where that creativity can be harnessed for the afternoon. Some acting classes or theater groups offer their facilities for birthday parties. During the course of the party, kids can write a script (with help from the acting teachers), get into costume (provided by the wardrobe department of the acting class) and film a TV show movie or commercial. After the piece has been filmed, kids can open presents, eat food and enjoy their cake while a member of the staff edits the movie together. At the end of the afternoon, the DVD copy can serve as the party favor. For this type of party, consider if your child and her friends are shy or if this is the type of activity they would embrace.
Fruit Picking Party
-
If you live near agricultural farms, have a party where the kids harvest their own fruit to take home. Contact a local farm and tell them that you want to bring a group during one of their appointed picking times. The farm typically provides the baskets and basic picking supplies, such as cutters or gardening scissors. However, children attending the party should consider bringing gloves and sun protection. Also, instruct the kids to wear clothes that they do not mind getting dirty. The farm may charge a flat rate per child that allows the child to keep a certain amount of fruit, such as $10 for 2 lbs. of strawberries. The farm may also charge by the total weight picked for the entire party.
