If you are attending a junior or senior high school prom, then you are not only planning what you will wear and how you will arrive, but also what you are going to do after prom is over. Making plans with other friends in your class will extend the evening into the wee hours of the next morning. Plan ahead so you know exactly where you are going after the prom.

  1. School Sponsored Event

    • To promote a non-drinking environment after the prom, many schools offer a post-prom party usually held on school grounds. Parents volunteer to chaperone the all-night event that keeps the party going through the next morning. Parents usually decorate several of the rooms such as the cafeteria, gym or several classrooms. These rooms tend to have events such as dancing, karaoke and performances by vendors such as magicians, hypnotists or clowns. Generally food and non-alcoholic drinks are provided for the students as well. Many of these after-parties have a rule that if a student leaves, they cannot come back for the rest of the evening. This keeps students from trying to use alcohol or drugs before returning.

    The Beach or Lake

    • Proms are generally held in the spring as the weather starts to warm. Gather friends at the beach to celebrate the night under the stars. Before the prom, divide up items people should bring to keep the party going. For example, someone can bring music, while others are in charge of food and beverages. Another suggestion is to have parents meet their kids at the beach or lake to provide some of these items so they do not have to stop home or store them in the limo during the prom. If local ordinances allow it, you can also light a bonfire on the beach.

    Dance Club

    • If you live in or around a city, go to a dance club after the prom. Find a dance club that is either designated as "all ages" or 18 and over (provided everyone in your group is 18 or older). In general, dance clubs in most of the country stay open until 2 a.m. Some locations, such as New York City, stay open to 4 a.m. Bring a change of clothes so you can get out of your prom dress, tuxedo or suit.

    Late-Night Eats

    • Some proms serve dinner courses while other simply serve beverages or light refreshments. Either way, after all of that energy you burned on the dance floor, you will probably work up an appetite. Find a 24-hour restaurant in your hometown for some late-night dining. If a large party is going to attend the restaurant, call a few days ahead and let them know your group will be coming in so they are properly staffed and not suddenly overwhelmed when a large party walks in after midnight.
