Romantic Things to Say in Your Boyfriend's Anniversary Card

Anniversaries are romantic, special occasions. You may say you love each other every day, but your anniversary is a time to celebrate your relationship and the fun you've had together, the challenges you've overcome and the feelings you stir within one another. If you find yourself at a loss for words when personalizing an anniversary card for your boyfriend, take a moment to think about why you love him.

Short and Sweet

  • Getting right to the heart of the matter may be the best way to express how much your relationship has meant to you. Something short but expressive like "I love the way you touch me" or "Waking up in your arms has made this year magical" can be all you need to say. If this is your first anniversary, then say "This has been an amazing year for me" or "I've enjoyed every moment with you." If it's another year in a long relationship, you can say "The love I feel for you can't be measured" or "Each year I think I can't love you more, and each year I find I'm wrong."

Get Personal

  • Mention something personal about your relationship -- something that's special between the two of you. Say "Cuddle under the covers with me and watch old movies for another year" or "Standing next to you on our pier -- our lines in the water and salt in the air -- is my favorite kind of perfect." Since it's a personal thing, what you say depends on your experiences together. Choose something that you both love.

Crack Wise

  • Although anniversaries are romantic events, don't be afraid to express your own personality in the card. Something with a little humor or dry wit can be perfect if mushy isn't your style. Write lines like "I want to be the one your ex hates and your mother loves and that you can't get enough of;" "The more we're together, the more we rub off on each other. We're practically the same person now;" or even "Last year wasn't too awful. I guess I can put up with you for another." As long as it expresses who you are, and your boyfriend will get it, it will work.

Outside the Box (or Card)

  • What you "say" in your boyfriend's card doesn't have to be words at all. Your anniversary offers the perfect time to do something creative and romantic. Book a room in a nice local hotel, tape the key to the inside of a blank card and write your room number under it. He'll get the message. Make a small collage of pictures you took together during some of your favorite moments. Put something that has a special meaning for both of you inside an envelope with a lipstick kiss on it. Or put a clue inside the card that leads to another clue inside your home, with the ultimate destination being you in a bubble bath or a lovely supper with champagne. The possibilities are endless.
