Kids' Games With Christian Lessons
Certainly you can recall the games you played while growing up. Kids still play many of these classic games such as "Simon Says," "Red Light-Green Light," "Hide and Seek" and "Musical Chairs." You can take these classic games kids play and use them to share Christian lessons and Biblical principles.
-
Simon Says
-
Adapt Simon Says to teach Christian lessons. Tell the players, "To win the game of life, you need to listen to and follow God's voice and principles." Read Psalms 119:9-11. "Following God's Word helps you not to sin and make bad choices." Write the verses on the board and repeat, erasing some of the words each time until the whole passage has been erased. Have kids close their Bibles. Ask the class to find the following scriptures using "Simon says look up ..." John 14:15, Matthew 7:21, Joshua 1:8-9, James 1:22, 2 Timothy 3:16, Romans 8:28 and John 3:16-17. The person who first finds each verse gets a point. The kid with the most points wins. Discuss what it means to obey God and God alone.
Red Light-Green Light
-
Have the kids read Proverbs 3:5-6, Exodus 20:3-17, Ephesians 4:31-32, Luke 10:27, Matthew 22:37, Mark 12:30, Leviticus 19:11, etc. Explain that God has a path for us to follow with red and green lights to show us the way. On the board write red (no) and green (go) with a line down between them. From the Bible passages, have students call out behavior choices that go under the red column such as lying, cheating, murder and jealousy and choices that go under the green column such as love God and others, be kind and helpful and so forth. Discuss the result of red and green choices. Play Red Light-Green Light using the list, going forward on "green" words and stopping on "red" words.

Hide and Seek
-
Before class, hide miniature stuffed, plastic or ceramic sheep and quarters around the classroom. Don't make the hiding places too difficult. Have kids search for a coin or a sheep. Tell them once they've found an item they must take a seat. Once everyone has a coin or sheep, read Luke 19:10. Talk about how, while we like to play "Hide and Seek," hiding from God isn't possible. Have students read Luke 15:4-10 out loud. Share that Jesus loves them enough to seek those who try to hide from him because He doesn't want any of His children lost.
Musical Chairs
-
Play Musical Chairs to Christian tunes. Say "'Musical Chairs is an exclusive game. If you don't get a chair, you're out. God is both exclusive and inclusive." Using Matthew 11:28, Matthew 7:21, John 6:40, Acts 2:21 and Revelation 22:17, share God's inclusiveness. "Every job, family, activity and game has limits and rules to abide by. God does as well. He makes it simple. Christianity isn't about leaving people out or followings just rules. Christianity is about one thing---believing in Jesus and accepting Him into your life. He loves everyone and, unlike the game of musical chairs, Jesus doesn't want anyone excluded from His love and guidance. He leaves that choice up to you." End by sharing John 3:16-17.
