Volunteering and donating helps thousands of people every year.

Medfield, MA is a small community eight miles southwest of the city of Boston. The population in Medfield was only 12,000 as of 2009. This being the case, there are no charities that collect toys located directly in the city limits. However, since Boston is right on Medfield's front porch, you can find several toy charities in the general area.

  1. Toys for Tots- Boston, MA

    • Established and run by the United States Marines, Toys for Tots is a charitable non-profit organization that collects and donates toys to children whose parents are not able to afford toys during the Christmas season. The foundation was started in 1974 by Major William Hendricks and remains one of the most prominent charitable foundations in the country. Its home base is located in Triangle, Virginia but it has offices all over the country, including in Boston. You can bring used toys to Toys for Tots for donation. The charity will provide you with a receipt so that you can claim the donation on your taxes.

Morgan Memorial Goodwill INC.- Boston, MA

    • Located in the heart of Boston, Morgan Memorial Goodwill is a center for donations of all kinds including used clothes, appliances, and toys. Though Goodwill does not give the toys away, they do sell them at very low prices so that low-income families can still afford nice toys for their children. Goodwill accepts all kinds of toys, but they must be in working condition with batteries included, if applicable. If a toy appears broken or does not seem to work, it is often thrown away.

    The Salvation Army- Cambridge Corps

    • Located just outside Boston in the community of Cambridge, the Salvation Army is a nationwide charity much like Goodwill. It collects donations from members of the community and sells them for a small amount to less fortunate shoppers. You can drop off donations at any time of the day or night in the drop box behind the Cambridge Corps building, making donations easy. The Salvation Army Cambridge Corps is also the site of a church where anyone can go on Sundays to enjoy non-denominational services.

    Horizons for Homeless Children

    • Located just outside of Boston and only two miles from Medfield, Horizons for Homeless Children is a non-profit organization that offers donating opportunities for all kinds of goods from used toys to used clothes. The charity is geared towards orphaned children or children that have been found abandoned on the streets. If you want to take the donation a little further, you can volunteer to spend some time with the children, which they will often appreciate. Horizons does offer tax write offs for donations to their organization.
