Culinary Arts Scholarships for High School Students

A degree in culinary arts can lead to an exciting career as a chef or restaurant manager. Many students who plan to enroll in an associate or bachelor's program in the culinary arts directly after high school need to secure financial support before they can do so. Luckily, there are several sources of scholarship money for graduating high school students.

  1. American Culinary Federation High School Student Scholarship

    • The American Culinary Foundation offers scholarships to high school students annually in amounts of up to $2,500. To be eligible, a student must be a graduating high school senior, must have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.5 or better, and must be accepted into a postsecondary culinary arts or pastry arts program of study. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, financial need, answers to essay questions and past participation in ACF-related events or activities. The annual deadline for application is March 31.

    AH&LEF Incoming Freshman Scholarship

    • The American Hotel and Lodging Educational Foundation offers scholarship money to graduating high school seniors through the AH&LEF Incoming Freshman Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded in amounts of up to $2,000 for bachelor's students, and up to $1,000 for associate students. To be eligible, a recipient must be accepted into a culinary arts program, must be a permanent resident or citizen of the United States, and must have a high school GPA of 2.0 or higher. The annual deadline for application is May 1.

    NRAEF Incoming Freshman Scholarships

    • The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation offers two scholarships to high school students who will be enrolling in a culinary arts program. The NRAEF Scholarship for High School/GED Graduate/ProStart Students is available in the amount of $2,500 to graduating high school seniors. The Al Schuman Ecolab First-time Freshman Entrepreneurial Scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors who plan to attend a select list of schools and is valued between $3,000 and $3,500. The annual application deadline for both scholarships is Aug. 17.

    MRA Scholarships

    • The Massachusetts Restaurant Association offers scholarship support to graduating high school seniors who are Massachusetts residents and have been accepted into a culinary program at an accredited postsecondary institution. To be eligible, an applicant must have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.65 on a scale of 4.0, and must have worked a minimum of 250 hours in a job related to the culinary arts. The annual deadline for application is April 15.
