Though teenagers no longer go trick-or-treating on Halloween, they still enjoy dressing in costumes for Halloween or costume parties. Often teenage girls prefer pretty costumes that showcase their appearance. Find elements of a pretty costumes at thrift or resale clothing stores. Costume stores that spring up around Halloween offer cheap versions of costume wigs and jewelry needed for some pretty costumes.

  1. Cleopatra

    • Cleopatra's story of love and power intrigues those familiar with her legend. Dressing up as Cleopatra provides a pretty costume option. Start with a hairstyle fashioned after the queen, long dark hair and bangs. You may need to purchase a wig. Cleopatra's dress drapes over the shoulders and stops at the feet. A metallic belt cinches around the waist. Anyone dressed as Cleopatra must use black eyeliner to dramatize the eyes and deep red lipstick to accent the lips. Find satin or sequined gowns at a local thrift shop. Add a big hairdo and sparkling costume jewelry. Hold a trophy or fake award statuette to add to the image. With a little more effort, teenagers can dress up as a particular celebrity.

    Angel

    • Dress in all white as the basis of the angel costume. Drape yards of sheer white fabric such as organza or tulle over the shoulders to add the feeling of lightness. Make simple wings by forming the wing out of wire. Then slip sheer white pantyhose over the wire. Attach the wings to the back with a strap. Create a halo with wire wrapped in tinsel or buy a halo at a costume store. Use shimmering white make up over the face to add to the effect.
