Tuning
-
PlayPro Interactive Guitar teaches you how to properly tune your guitar when you first plug your guitar in using the supplied 1/4-inch to 1/8-inch adapter. The program features a virtual tuner, which enables you to see whether the string you are currently tuning is too high or too low, based on the position of a needle on an on-screen scale.
Picking Styles and Notes
-
After successfully tuning your guitar, PlayPro Interactive Guitar begins to teach you lessons about different picking styles and the basics of notes. You can either pick using a plastic guitar pick (a plectrum) or by using your fingers. These are generally suitable for different styles of music; for example, finger-picking is often favored by folk musicians. The program then teaches you about musical notes and their relation to the guitar.
-
Chords
-
PlayPro Interactive Guitar then moves on to teaching you about chords. A chord is made up of four notes, generally the root, third, fifth and then the root again an octave higher. The first guitar chord you learn is C, and then you continue to learn new chords in this section and throughout the program. The two basic types of chords are major chords, which sound happy, and minor chords, which sound sad.
12-Bar Blues
-
Twelve-bar blues is a basic song structure used in many popular songs. After you've learned some initial chords, PlayPro Interactive Guitar teaches you how to play 12-bar blues: four bars of the root chord, two bars of the fourth, two bars of the root, one bar of the fifth, one bar of the fourth and two bars of the root. Mastering this basic pattern helps you learn how to change between chords and provides a framework for basic songwriting.
More Advanced Lessons
-
As you progress, PlayPro Interactive Guitar also teaches you about more advanced guitar techniques, such as hammer-ons and pull-offs, vibrato and string bending. Hammer-ons and pull-offs involve fretting and playing one note, but then changing that note by either hammering your finger onto a higher note or pulling off your finger to reveal one fretted at a lower note. These more advanced lessons give you the opportunity to practice these techniques.
