Can I Collect Unemployment After My Temp Job Ends Through an Employment Agency?
Employment agencies, sometimes called temporary agencies, offer temporary jobs to qualified individuals. These jobs may last anywhere from a day to several months or longer. In some cases, people hired for these jobs will be taken on by the temporary employer full time. However, in most cases, the job will end after the assignment is over. Sometimes a person who has completed a temporary job will be eligible for unemployment benefits.

Unemployment benefits are reserved for people who have been laid off from jobs through no fault of their own. In order to receive benefits, a worker must be willing and available to take a job offered. The worker must also be looking for work while he receives unemployment benefits.
"Temporary" Jobs

When a person's temporary assignment for an employment agency ends, he is not laid off. However, if the person is not offered additional work, then his status is equivalent to that of a laid off person.

In order to receive benefits, a person must have worked a certain number of hours and/or earned a certain amount of money within a set period, depending on the regulations of the state providing the benefits. In some cases, a person working a temporary job may have held employment for too short a period to qualify for benefits -- or he will only receive a small amount of unemployment benefits.

In some cases, a person will be offered a temporary job while he is receiving unemployment after losing a full-time job. This person can accept the temporary job without entirely losing his unemployment benefits. While he will likely not receive benefits in the weeks in which he receives income from his temporary job, he will not have to reapply for benefits when the temporary job is over -- he can simply resume receiving benefits as before.
