Organizations That Support Pregnant Teens
An unplanned pregnancy can be a scary event both for the mother and father. Fortunately there are several nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations nationwide that assist pregnant teens. Depending on the organization, a pregnant teen (or a teen who may think she is pregnant) can access these resources for counseling, emotional support, education and adoption or abortion services.
-
Planned Parenthood
-
Planned Parenthood is the largest reproductive advocate and health-care center in the United States. This organization also functions as an education center for men and women. The services offered to women who have become pregnant or think they may be pregnant include: pregnancy tests, contraception, morning-after pills, counseling and abortion services. Planned Parenthood advises those who already know they're pregnant to first take a pregnancy test and then take steps to decide if abortion, adoption or becoming a parent is the best option for them.
Birthright International
-
Birthright International is not an all-purpose reproductive health-care center like Planned Parenthood, but it does offer some of the same services. Birthright was founded in 1968 by Louise Summerhill from Toronto, Canada, and has since spread to become a worldwide organization. A primary goal of Birthright is to provide emotional support and counseling services to young pregnant women though a toll-free number. Although Birthright does not provide contraception or abortion services, it does provide pregnancy testing and assistance with housing and job placement. Birthright is a nonprofit organization and has no religious affiliation.

Healthy Teen Network
-
Healthy Teen Network is an organization that focuses on teen pregnancy prevention and teen parenting in the United States. This organization functions as an advocacy group and provides educational resources to local, state and regional organizations. Healthy Teen Network describes its mission as promoting a community "where all adolescents and young adults, including teen parents, are supported and empowered to lead healthy sexual, reproductive and family lives."
Advocates for Youth
-
Advocates for Youth describes its mission as "advocating for a more positive and realistic approach to adolescent sexual health." Advocates for Youth is different from the other three organizations because its focus is on youths in both the U.S. and developing countries. The organization functions as an education center and assists other organizations in developing strategies on sexual health. Its website contains resources on sexually transmitted disease (STD) treatments, gay/lesbian/trans-gender education, abstinence programs and contraception programs.
