The more than 15,000 students who attend Loyola University Chicago can fund their education with school-sponsored scholarships. With undergraduate tuition around $16,000 and graduate tuition nearing $900 a credit hour for the 2010-2011 school year, students can use the help. Loyola administers a number of scholarship programs, helping make college more affordable for its students.

  1. Freshman Heritage Awards

    • Two Loyola incoming freshmen can earn scholarships that cover their four-year tuition in full. The Chicago Catholic Heritage Award goes to a freshman student who graduated from Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Chicago or Diocese of Joliet. The Jesuit Heritage Award goes to a freshman who graduated from a Jesuit high school and is a Jesuit Secondary Education constituent member in the U.S. Both scholarships are renewable for the student's undergraduate career.

    Freshman Academic Scholarships

    • Loyola offers four levels of merit-based scholarships to incoming freshman. The school chooses award winners based on their general admissions application; no additional application is required. These scholarships do not consider financial need and are strictly merit based. The Presidential Scholarship offers $16,000 a year for four years, while the Damen Scholarship offers $13,000 a year for four years. The Trustee Scholarship offers freshmen $10,000 a year for four years, while the Dean's Scholarship is worth $5,000 a year for four years.

    Major Scholarships

    • Loyola students can apply for scholarships specific to their major. Education majors who are freshmen are eligible for renewable half-tuition scholarships if they have a 22 ACT score or 1010 SAT score. Finalists have to interview on campus for the scholarship. Students enrolling as accounting majors can apply for the Public Accounting Scholarships, which require a strong academic record, though specific requirements vary from year to year. Similar scholarships are available to freshman theater majors.

    Chicago Public Schools Scholarships

    • The Chicago Public School district offers two scholarships for Loyola students every year. The Chicago Metro History Fair Scholarship is worth $8,000 spread over four years. Applicants have to win an award in the Chicago Metro History Fair and graduate from a Chicago-area public high school. The Chicago Public Schools Science Fair Scholarship goes to an incoming freshman at Loyola who graduated from a Chicago public high school. The scholarship is worth $2,000 a year for four years.
