The American Water Works Association has collaborated with the American National Standards Institutes to make standards for a fiberglass pressure pipe. The title for this type of pipe is the ANSI/AWWA C950-07. This fiberglass pipe standard is a revision of the ANSI/AWWA C950-01.

Definition
-
According to AWWA, the C950-07 standard "describes the fabrication and the testing" of nominal 1-inch to 156-inch fiberglass pipe and joining systems. These fiberglass pipes can be used below and above ground for water systems. Both service and distribution, as well as transmission piping systems are included the in AWWA C950-07 standard.
Materials
-
Fiberglass pipes can be made of glass-fiber-reinforced thermosetting-resin pipe or glass-fiber-reinforced polymer mortar pipe. The liner materials that are used include "thermosetting or thermoplastic resin, reinforced or unreinforced, with or without filters," according to AWWA. Systems made of epoxy resin or polyester resin are also described as part of the standard. Commercial-grade E-type glass is descried as reinforcement material in the pipe wall.

Revisions
-
AWWA made large revisions for the C950-07 edition of the standard. For example, the diameter range increased to 156 inches. The association added more pressure classes, such as 300, 350, 400 and 450 pounds per square inch.
Price
-
The AWWA sells manuals that explain its standards. The list price for the C90-07 standards manual is $69, as of January 2011. For members of the association, the pipe costs $43. For those interested in the design, installation and execution of AWWA-approved fiberglass pipes, the M45 Fiberglass Pipe Design manual sells for $119, or $75 for members.
