Trex Decking Specifications

Trex decking is a type of composite deck created by the Trex Company. The company started in 1996 and is headquartered in Winchester, Virginia. Trex decking is designed to look like wood but lasts longer. You also don't have to repaint and maintain it like you do standard wood decking. You can purchase Trex decking from home improvement stores. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Decking

    • The actual Trex decking boards are available in 1 or 2 inch thick boards. The three main types of boards are the Fascia, Grooved Edge and Square Edge. The Fascia is available in either 8 inch or 12 inch long boards. The boards are 0.75 inches thick and 11.375 inches wide. The Grooved Edge board is 1 inch thick and 5.5 inches wide. It is available in 12, 16 or 20 foot lengths. The Square Edge Board is available in 1 or 2 inch widths and 12, 16 or 20 foot lengths. The boards are either 3.5 inches or 5.5 inches wide.

    Railing

    • The Trex Transcend Railing railings are available in 6- or 8-foot lengths, and you can also purchase a 91.5-inch railing top cap. Colors range from white to brown to black. You can buy stair, horizontal or vertical rail kits. Trex also sells top and bottom rail kits, which are available in 6- or 8-foot lengths. These kits include spacers, blocks and the mounting hardware.

    Trex Designer

    • The Trex Designer/Traditional Railing looks more like standard wood and comes in traditional colors, including Winchester Gray, Gravel Path and Madeira. The posts and post sleeves are 4-feet long, and the railings are 6-feet long. The railing thickness varies from 1 to 2 inches. With this set, you can purchase 30- or 36-inch square baluster kits, which include 144-inch long bulk balusters. You have your choice of a flat or pyramid post sleeve cap, which goes on top of the baluster.

    TrexTrim

    • The TrexTrim attaches to stair stringers or joists to cover up these sections, which ensures that your entire deck matches your installed Trex decking. The TrexTrim is available in different thicknesses, including 2/3, 3/4 and 1 inch. Widths and lengths vary depending on the type of board, but you can purchase boards between 12- and 20-feet long. The trim is available in either smooth or wood grain, which resembles actual wood. This material is also available in different colors, including white.
