In most situations, teen guys can get away with a basic tee shirt, jeans and sneakers and look completely appropriate. When you're getting ready for an evening out at a club, though, your favorite tee and ripped jeans are usually not the best look. Clubs often have unwritten dress codes that determine whether or not you'll even be allowed inside. If you don't want to worry about getting in with your friends, it's best to err on the side of caution and spruce up your wardrobe so you look sharp and stylish instead of casual.

Ditch the Sneakers

Teen guys tend to live in athletic shoes, and in some clubs, the right pair of designer sneakers may get you in the door. However, plenty of clubs won’t let you in without proper shoes, so it’s best to err on the side of caution. Ditch your sneakers in favor of a pair of dark shoes -- boots are a good option and can be just as comfortable as your favorite sneakers. Leather oxfords, moccasins and even simple dress shoes also work well for an evening at a club.

Go for Dark Jeans

Jeans may be a casual pants style, but they can work just fine at a club. However, choosing the right color is key. Light wash jeans tend to have a relaxed look, while dark indigo or even black jeans look a little dressier and provide a bit more style. If you really want to look sharp, choose a pair of dark jeans with contrast stitching so you’re sure to stand out at the club. A dark pair of corduroys or flannel trousers can also work well for an evening out.

Choose a Collared Shirt

You can probably get away with wearing a solid-colored tee shirt to a club, but when you really want to look stylish, a collared shirt is a much better option. You can choose a button-down style, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be a dress shirt. Collared button-down shirts in casual fabrics like denim or chambray or featuring casual patterns like variegated stripes or plaid are ideal options. When the weather’s warmer, a polo shirt can also work well. If you aren’t a fan of collared shirts, try a henley shirt instead of a standard tee for some extra style.

Wear Layers

Clubs are usually jam-packed with people, which means that they can get warm in a hurry. Dressing in layers means you can easily take off a piece or two if you get a little sweaty while you’re dancing. You can start with a basic tee or henley shirt and wear a button down over it. Next, add a jacket. If you want a really polished look, opt for a lightweight blazer. For a more casual look, try a leather jacket. Stay away from hoodies, though, which usually look a little too relaxed for a club.
