Mozilla Firefox Troubleshooting for Network Settings

Your computer's network settings allow you to connect to the Internet, and each Web browser also has its own settings panel. If you are a Mozilla Firefox user, the network settings panel can be used for managing proxy servers and offline data. If you cannot connect to any browser, you need to troubleshoot from the Network and Internet menu on your computer's Control Panel.

  1. Access

    • You can get to your Firefox browser's network settings via the Options window. Click the "Firefox" button in the top left corner of your browser window and hover your mouse over the Options line. After selecting Options, go to the Advanced icon and then click the Network tab. From there you can configure your network connection settings, including offline storage and proxies.

    Connection

    • If you cannot connect to the Internet, a proxy connection problem may be to blame. In the Network tab of your Options window, click the "Settings" button in the Connection section. You will be asked to set your proxy settings—a proxy is an intermediary server that helps your browser connect to the Internet. In most cases you need a proxy only if you're on a corporate network.

    Auto-Detect

    • When you are connecting to the Internet at home, you probably don't need a proxy server to get an Internet detection. If you are unsure whether or not your Internet requires a proxy, choose the Auto-Detect Proxy Settings for This Network setting option. If you still cannot get a connection, choose No Proxy to eliminate the feature and let your browser connect directly to the Internet.

    Cache

    • The Firefox cache saves information from websites so that when you return to the site your computer will load it more quickly. Some cache information is set to be saved offline, which allows you to access it without Internet service. Clearing your cache can often resolve problems when you cannot load a particular site or you get an error message when you try to navigate to it. To clear your offline cache, click "Clear Now" in the Offline Storage section of the Network tab. To clear your online cache go to the Firefox icon at the top of your browser and choose the History option.
