How Does a Wireless Projector Work?
Whether used in a home, classroom or business setting, wireless projectors reduce the corded clutter in your environment. They are also convenient because any laptop or device that transmits a wireless signal — which, at time of publication, is most devices — can connect to the same network and share work or entertainment through the projector. Several steps make a wireless projector work, but the process is easy to understand.
-
Projector
-
The first part of wireless projector functionality is to connect your wireless projector to your wireless network. The process varies slightly from brand to brand and model to model, but in most cases, your projector will have a settings menu you can access when you turn on the projector. Use the settings menu to select the correct wireless network and enter a password, if necessary. Your projector will notify you when the connection is successful.
Computer
-
Some wireless projectors require you to install software and drivers on your computer before being able to connect the two; other wireless projectors have no software requirements. From your computer’s “Start” menu, type “Connect to a Network Projector” in the Search field; this will call up the Network Projector Wizard. You can then connect to the projector by searching for a projector (Microsoft’s recommended choice) or entering the projector’s network address, if you know it.
-
Transfer
-
Once your projector is connected to your network and your computer is locked into the projector, you will be able to transfer data. The transfer occurs in the same way as any other network-based data transfer. Your computer sends a signal to a wireless router or wireless access point; that wireless device then redirects the signal to broadcast through the wireless projector.
Troubleshooting
-
The troubleshooting process varies according to each individual brand and model of projector; your user manual will help you with the specifics related to your projector. But if your projector is not working properly, you can try several universal troubleshooting before delving into any model-specific notes. First, ensure the projector is powered on and connected to the wireless network. Be sure that your computer is connected to the same wireless network. Also, if you entered a network address for the projector, check that you typed it correctly. You should also make sure that a firewall on your computer or in your network is not preventing the connection.
