Recovery Procedure for Toshiba L25

Toshiba offers you two ways to perform a recovery on your Satellite L25 laptop: with recovery discs or through the built-in recovery software on the hard drive. Numerous factors can necessitate a recovery, ranging from simple driver issues to heavy malware infestation. Depending on the extent of your issues, you can choose to recover individual application and driver files, or restore the system back to the factory default settings.

  1. Create Recovery Discs

    • Many computer manufacturers in recent years have stopped including recovery discs with new computers, and instead offer the new owner a way to create them at their convenience. To create recovery discs for your Toshiba L25, find the “Recovery Disc Creator” program under “Start”, “All Programs” and “Hard Disk Recovery Utilities.” Select the desired media and items to backup. The program will inform you of the number of disks required and guide you through the burning process.

    Back Up Data

    • If you are contemplating recovering your laptop back to factory default settings, take some time to backup all of your personal data first. Creating regular backup copies of your data is also a good idea in case of a sudden and unexpected computer crash. Copy all personal information and record user names and passwords for your online accounts, as this saved information will be deleted during recovery.

    Recovery Using Discs

    • Place the first recovery disc into the optical drive and reboot your Toshiba. Press the “F12” key immediately as your Toshiba powers up to enter the boot menu and select the optical drive as the boot source. Your L25 will reboot and boot from the recovery disc. You will receive a screen offering a choice of “Restore Original Factory Image,” which will erase all data and restore the laptop to factory defaults, or “Restore Partition C: of HDD Only,” which will overwrite drive C: only and leave any other partitions and information intact. Follow any on-screen directions and allow the program to run its course.

    Recovery Using Hard Drive

    • You can also run a recovery on your L25 from the hard drive if you do not have separate recovery discs. To run recovery from the hard drive, shut down your Toshiba. Once the laptop is completely off, press the zero key and hold it down as you press the power button. When the laptop boots, you'll see the the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen, offering you the same options as with the discs. Choose your desired recovery selection and follow the on-screen instructions to run the program.

    Third Recovery Option

    • The Recovery Utility offers a third option, which pertains to any partitions you may have on your laptop. Running recovery from the hard drive offers you the option of “Restore Image to C: Partition with User Specified Size,” which allows you to specify your desired size for the different drives on your laptop. Using the recovery discs offers “Restore Image to Entire HDD Without HDD Recovery Area,” which can increase the size of your C: drive, but will delete all information on any additional partitions you may have.
