My Dell Webcam Reacts Slowly
When your Dell webcam reacts slowly, it is difficult to use it for personal or professional video conferencing. A slow webcam can cause long wait times, blurry or pixelated images and distorted audio. The problem occurs on both built-in and external Dell webcams, and is usually easy to fix at home without advanced computer expertise.

Webcam Drivers
-
When your webcam's drivers are out of date or corrupt, they can make it difficult for the camera to operate to its full capacity. If you are using a built-in camera, you can uninstall and reinstall the webcam drivers. The drivers are available on the Dell Drivers and Downloads website for Windows Vista and Windows XP. If you are using Windows 7, the drivers come installed with the machine and will update automatically.
Dell Webcam Central
-
For built-in cameras, Dell uses Dell Webcam Central to control the device. Occasionally, strange webcam behavior is due to problems in the Webcam Central software. Dell recommends uninstalling and reinstalling the software to solve the issue. Uninstall the program from the Programs and Features section of the Control Panel. Once you have completed the process and restarted the computer, you can download and reinstall the most recent software from the Dell Support website.

Webcam Settings
-
Both built-in Dell webcams and external webcams have settings that enable you to automate behavior to improve the video experience. If your camera is reacting slowly to input or movement, it may be due to settings. In Dell Webcam Central or in the management software of an external webcam, deselect any automatic functions: face tracking, auto focus, pan and zoom and any preset settings like "best light" or "best focus."
Internet Speed
-
Internet speed has a significant impact on the reaction speed of your camera. If you experience slow reaction time while video chatting, it may be because your Internet service has slowed or because the wireless signal is intermittent. Most Dell computers have a button that toggles wireless access; flip the switch off and back on to allow the computer to reconnect. If the Internet is still slow, run Network Diagnostics by clicking the Network icon in the taskbar and choosing "Diagnose and Repair." You can also reset the Internet connection by resetting your router.
