Keep your skin rich with color during the winter.

Winter may be a time for bare trees and stinging cold weather, but it doesn't mean that your skin and hair have to be a reflection of the season. During the winter months, it can be more challenging to keep your skin glowing and your hair radiant since low temperatures tend to cause dryness. However, with some added effort, you can keep your cheeks rosy and your hair moisturized all season long to achieve that winter glow. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Exfoliate Your Skin

    • Exfoliating your skin removes the dead skin cells that haven't yet shed on their own. The cold winter weather can cause your skin to dry out, thereby intensifying the dry or dead skin on your face. The accumulation of the dead skin cells will keep your healthy skin beneath it from shining through. As such, use a gentle exfoliator, such as a gel scrub, on your face and neck a few times per week. As the skin cells shed, your cheeks will look rosier and color will be restored to your face. In addition, the stimulation from rubbing your face with the exfoliator is effective for getting the blood to flow.

    Moisturize Your Hair

    • Your hair can dry out during the winter, so if you want your hair to have that glow or shine to it, moisturize your locks with a deep conditioner two to three times per week. A deep conditioner is left on your hair for a few minutes while the nutrients soak into the follicles and the strands absorb the minerals. After you rinse the moisturizing conditioner out, your hair will feel and look healthier. It will also eliminate the dry or itchy sensation in your scalp that is often intensified in the cold weather.

    Warm Yourself Up

    • You can maintain a natural glow throughout winter by keeping yourself warm. One way to warm yourself up is to take hot showers or baths. The heat and steam from a hot shower or bath will revitalize your skin to make you look like you have more color. A simpler version of the shower or bath idea is to steam your face over a bowl of hot water, which will open your pores and release some of the natural oils to keep your skin moisturized. You also can heat up warming pads and apply them to your face and body to keep your skin stimulated.

    Use Natural Bronzers

    • One way to keep your skin glowing throughout the winter is to use a natural bronzer. Applying a light bronzer powder to your face, neck and possibly your arms can bring your skin's color to life and take away some of the paleness. Don't forget to give your cheeks a rosy hue with a soft pink rouge.

    Focus on Foods

    • You can keep your skin and hair glowing during winter from the inside out by focusing on food. What you feed your body can impact how you look. For instance, a diet that is rich in Omega 3 fatty acids can cause your skin and hair to be better moisturized and reduce any dry or itchiness. So, eat plenty of salmon and walnuts to get those Omega 3's. In addition, leafy greens, such as spinach, are also beneficial for your skin and hair because they are loaded with vitamins.
