InterVideo WinDVD 8 Won't Start

InterVideo WinDVD is an application used to read and play media through a computer system's CD/DVD ROM drive. As with any computer software, InterVideo WinDVD 8 can encounter issues – specifically involving startup. Whether the application is newly updated or has been used several times, various problems on your computer and within the software can cause application startup and operation errors.

  1. History

    • InterVideo WinDVD, a product of Corel, is often found installed on Lenovo brand laptops. The eighth version of the program, released in November 2006, is compatible with Windows XP and Vista operating systems. Updates for InterVideo WinDVD 8 allow compatibility with the Windows 7 operating system. The program reads and plays audio, video, DVD and movie files, both in standard and high definition, and allows you to edit your own recordings.

    Updates

    • Manage the updates for InterVideo WinDVD 8 to ensure proper functioning. Apply updates as they are released, but take precautions before installation. If a new update is applied without removing previous versions of the software, the new update may cause the program to crash or not start up at all. Follow instructions for each new update before downloading and installing.

    Corruption

    • A corrupt download can also cause the program to not start up correctly, but this can usually be fixed by downloading the update again and reinstalling the new version. If the corrupted update can't be uninstalled through the control panel, it may be necessary to manually remove it by deleting the temporary files and folders for WinDVD 8. When attempting the second download and installation, read all of the directions and fine print. Even if you're familiar with the installation process, new information in the update or version can cause a conflict with another program and interfere with InterVideo WinDVD 8's startup process.

    Version

    • If you've previously used the WinDVD 8 program on your computer and it suddenly doesn't start, the program may have concluded a trial period. According to InterVideo, the program installer for WinDVD 8 has been rebuilt to properly activate purchased software to run beyond the trial period. A bug within the first installation file allowed the trial version to continue running, even after purchase, causing the program to expire and stop working. Downloading the new installer and running InterVideo WinDVD 8 should fix this problem.
