Goonies Party Ideas

You can take friends and family on a nostalgia trip by throwing a "Goonies" theme party. The classic 1985 Richard Donner-directed film starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman and Jeff Cohen chronicles the adventures of a group of kids whose found treasure map takes them on an adventure beyond their wildest expectations. Celebrate the film using Goonies-themed invitations, decorations, food and activities.

  • Make treasure map invitations on card stock for your Goonies-themed shindig. Create treasure maps that show directions to your house or the event location with all other viable information on the back of the invite. You can also make treasure map invitations featuring quotes from the film, such as "Goonies never say die!" Other invite options include collages of stills from the movie with party information written on the back, or collages featuring individual characters with party information written in thought bubbles.

  • In addition to Goonies movie posters and printed images from the film, use pirate-themed decorations for your Goonies party. Place one or more treasure chests around the party space filled with faux gold and jewels, small plastic or paper renditions of pirate ships and lots of skulls and skeletons. Prop skeletons on chairs and seat them at tables as "party guests," use skulls as table centerpieces and create displays using pirate swords and loot. Make polymer clay replicas of the Goonies key or purchase replicas online as decorations.

  • Bake cakes and shape them to resemble skulls and crossbones, individual skulls, pirate ships and treasure chests. Use sheet cakes for such desserts, though experienced bakers can go for 3D versions. These ideas also work for sugar cookies. Place gold coin chocolates in bowls around the party space, and keep pints of ice cream on hand as an ode to the ice cream that Chunk finds in the Fratellis' house. Tint water with assorted food coloring to create the rusty brown water served to the Goonies by Mama Fratelli.

  • Screen favorite scenes from the film, set up your computer for Goonies online games, and play Goonies-themed charades and "Simon Says." Make up a scavenger hunt in your backyard or neighborhood park with a small treasure chest filled with Goonies-themed gifts as the game prize. Include a copy of the Goonies DVD in the prize pack, as well as Goonies T-shirts, mugs, action figures and chocolate pirate gold. Other activity ideas include using polymer clay to make take-home versions of the Goonies key.
