Tahoe Party Ideas

Lake Tahoe is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the U.S. at more than 191 square miles and home to various natural and man-made party venues. The lake, which is bordered by both California and Nevada, is a spring and summer destination for boat parties. Surrounded by the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Lake Tahoe also presents opportunities for hiking and ski parties. Many of Lake Tahoe's resorts offer group packages for skiing, lodging and dining, and gambling is available in casinos on the Nevada side.

  1. Skiing

    • During the winter, some of Lake Tahoe's ski resorts offer party packages for large groups. The Northstar California Ski Resort (northstarattahoe.com) offers its Epic Ski Package. This party package caters to groups of 20 or more on Sundays through Fridays; the package does not count for holidays. Northstar also provides group discounts for rentals and ski lessons. Heavenly Lake Tahoe Ski Resort (skiheavenly.com) offers group discounts for lift tickets in the summer and winter seasons. Group discounts at Heavenly are for groups of 20 or more. Other group discounts are available at Heavenly for lodging, transportation and sightseeing tours.

    Boating

    • Lake Tahoe's 191 square miles provides plenty of space for partying on a party boat. The Party Boat (partyboatlaketahoe.com) is a 52-foot boat available for birthdays, bachelor parties and family reunions. This boat offers onboard catering for parties. Some of the boat's features are an outdoor deck and fully furnished kitchen. The Party Boat docks at Tahoe Keys Marina (tahoekeysmarina.net) in South Lake Tahoe. Zephyr Cove Resort's (zephyrcove.com) private charter company, Lake Tahoe Cruises, also docks out of South Lake Tahoe and features the Tahoe Princess. The Princess is a 70-foot pontoon boat with a capacity for 120 partiers.

    Hiking

    • Large or small parties have opportunities for hiking in the Lake Tahoe area. Many of Lake Tahoe's trails provide scenic views of the lake and Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Rubicon and Eagle Falls trails are some of the area's shorter paths, which makes a hiking party easier for groups with young children. Rubicon Trail runs approximately four miles from D.L. Bliss State Park to Vikingsholm; part of the trail passes by Lake Tahoe's shoreline. Eagle Falls is a two-mile round-trip path that passes by waterfalls. Both trails have picnic areas with tables and grills for parties.

    Casinos

    • The two largest casino resorts in the Lake Tahoe area are Montbleu (montbleuresort.com) and Horizon (horizoncasino.com). Both casino resorts are on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, right off U.S. Highway 50. Some of Montbleu's lounges, such as HQ and Opal Ultralounge, have booths and areas for bachelorette and birthday parties. The Aspen Lounge at Horizon also facilitates parties. Those over 21 years of age have access to the casino floors at Montbleu and Horizon. These casinos have slot machines, poker rooms and blackjack tables.
