Bose Triport Vs. Sennheiser
"Bose TriPort" is the term used for the ear cushion design of a pair of over-the-ear headphones from the United States-based audio electronics manufacturer Bose Corp. – specifically, the AE2. The HD 448 is a comparable product from Sennheiser, a competing audio electronics company headquartered in Germany. The HD 448 is one of the company's lower-end over-the-ear headphones.

Primarily using a black color finish with additional silver accents, the Bose and Sennheiser headphones have a single-cord design. This means that the audio cable comes out of one ear cushion, rather than featuring the dual-ear cushion-connected Y-shaped design typical of most headphones. Also, the cord is detachable. The Bose headphones has the additional ability to fold flat for better portability.

At the end of each Bose AE2 and Sennheiser HD 448 cord is a plug for connection to electronic products such as iPods, iPhones, MP3 players and personal computers. The AE2 has a 1/8-inch (3.5-millimeter) plug. The HD 448's plug measures 1/4 inches (6.3 mm), although the company includes a 1/8-inch adapter. The HD 448 has a frequency response of 16 to 2,4000 hertz; this is the measure of the headphones's sound accuracy. Bose, however, does not provide the frequency response for the AE2.

The Bose AE2 has a weight of 4.9 oz., while the Sennheiser HD 448 is heavier at 13.4 oz. Included in the AE2 packaging is a drawstring carrying bag. A version of the AE2 called the AE2i also offers an inline remote for iPods and iPhones. The HD 448 not only comes with a carrying pouch and the aforementioned plug adapter, but a 5.25-ft. extension cable, as well.

The Bose TriPort, or AE2, headphones have a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $150; the AE2i version costs $30 more. At $130, the Sennheiser HD 448 is less expensive than the Bose headphones. At the time of publication, both headphones are still in production, available for purchase directly from their respective manufacturers.
