Drum Stick Crafts


Rather than throwing out broken drum stick pieces and therefore creating more trash in the world, reuse them to create assorted craft projects. Drum sticks do not have to be broken to be used for craft purposes. Alternatively, you can also make drum sticks as a craft project.

Homemade Drum Stick Crafts

  • Drum sticks for play drum sets can be made at home using a variety of materials such as chopsticks, which can be painted or otherwise decorated as desired. Try covering the sticks with old wallpaper scraps. Sand and paint twigs or small tree branches to use as drum sticks, or make drum sticks out of wooden skewers and foam balls. Foam balls can be attached with hot or white glue.

  • Drum sticks as well as broken drum sticks can be painted for use as markers in your garden. Sticks painted in various colors and patterns can be used to designate specific garden areas, such as a vegetable garden or rose garden, as well as to mark certain types of plants, flowers and herbs. Pieces of laminated paper can be attached to the sticks with tape or the name of the flower or herb can be painted directly on the stick.

Puppet Crafts

  • Broken pieces or entire drum sticks can be utilized as handles for paper and fabric puppets. The handles can be decorated or left as is depending on preference. Another option is to use drum sticks as "stick puppets," which can be painted and decorated as desired.   • Broken drum stick pieces can be used to make small to medium picture frames, while intact drum sticks may be used to make large picture frames. Paint the sticks the same color and attach them to a plain photo frame with hot glue, or use multiple paint colors to make a variety of designs and patterns on the drum sticks. Drum sticks can also be wrapped in various pieces of scrap fabric, covered in old wallpaper scraps and construction paper.
