Americans celebrate Halloween night each year on October 31. While family traditions and methods of celebrating the holiday may vary, there are a variety of activities and things to do on Halloween night. From trick-or-treating to dressing up in a costume and attending a Halloween party, Halloween night is one of the most eventful nights of the year.


  • Whether you have young kids or you are one yourself, dress up in a costume and go door to door in your neighborhood asking for candy. Trick-or-treating is a traditional Halloween night activity and usually begins when the sun goes down. However, if you feel uncomfortable allowing your children to trick-or-treat alone, throw on a costume and head out the door with them.

Stay Home and Watch a Scary Movie or Carve Pumpkins

  • If you feel more like relaxing and enjoying a quiet night inside, watch a scary movie on Halloween night or carve a pumpkin. You can usually find a scary movie on television, or you can consider renting one. In addition, carving pumpkins is an opportunity to show off your creative side. Attend a Halloween Party

  • For adults, attending a Halloween party is an opportunity to have some fun on this holiday. A Halloween party allows adults who are too old to go trick-or-treating, to dress up in Halloween costumes and enjoy the holiday. Usually a Halloween party is held at an person’s home, but more and more cities are throwing adult Halloween parties for people who wish to celebrate.

Visit a Haunted House

  • Most cities now have a haunted house or other attraction that both older children and adults can attend. Today, many haunted houses are frightening, with companies using high-tech visual and audio equipment in addition to live actors that wander through the attraction, scaring guests. Therefore, many establishments do not recommend bringing children under the age of 10. In addition, expect Halloween night to be a busy night for a popular haunted house, and long lines may be inevitable.
