Traditional Bridal Updos
Most girls dream about their perfect wedding from childhood, outlining exactly what they want from their dress to how they want to style their tresses. The perfect hairstyle highlights the bride’s entire ensemble and should convey an image of grace, sophistication and beauty. With a few styling tools, hair of any length and thickness can be styled into traditional bridal updos. Does this Spark an idea?

Classic or Modern?
-
Before getting your style on, you should decide what type of updo you want. Updos are normally divided into two categories: classic or modern. A classic updo is a more formal, sleek hairstyle. This popular bridal style is often slicked down with mousse or gel, and is commonly paired with traditional ballgown-type wedding gowns. Modern updos incorporate the upswept, polished look of the classic style, with a softer, curlier touch. Modern ‘dos often have curls around the face and neck to convey a relaxed, feminine style.
Short Updos
-
For a simple classic updo on short hair, brush the hair at the forehead back and pin it down firmly with bobby pins. Wet your fingers and smooth the hair down, setting it with hair spray. Curl the bottom two inches of hair and pull the rest of your hair back like you’re going to make a ponytail. Twist the hair up and pin at the crown. For softer updo, take inch-wide sections and coat with styling gel. Curl each section from the scalp to the end. Pin the curls into place on top of the head and accessorize with live flowers or decorative hairpins.

Medium Updos
-
Start a classic updo on medium-length hair by dividing your tresses down the middle. Brush each section back and twirl the section around your finger to create a tight twist. Wrap the left and right side around each other to build a large, interwoven twist. Pin the ends under for a sleek updo. If romance is more your thing, pull your entire head of hair up to your crown and secure it with a ponytail elastic. Twist the ponytail gently into a loose bun, securing the bun with pins. Pull a few strands loose to frame your face and curl with a curling iron.
Long Updos
-
Put long locks up into a tight ponytail and curl the hair in two-inch sections. Twist each curl up lightly and pin it against your scalp. Add a few small flowers or sparkling hairpins for extra glamor. For a modern twist on this stylish updo, turn a few strands loose from the ponytail and let them hang loose. Free three or four 1-inch wide pieces near your face and curl them around a wide-barrel curling iron.
